Princess Anna of Arendelle. That's what they all call me at least. But I'm not that princess. I'm just Anna, younger sister to Elsa: the princess turned queen of Arendelle.
Please don't be intimidated by my energetic and slightly awkward personality; I'm just not used to meeting new people. I've been cooped up in this castle my whole life so I'm not used to meeting other human beings.
So, would you like to build a snowman?

— - “Whoa, hey, no more worrying. We’re both nice, dry, and together. It was all just that— a dream. And dream or not, I’ll be there save you, no matter the coast. Always. I love you too. Always.
Don’t think I won’t take you up on that offer. Princess or not, you’re plenty capable of hauling some ice around. Or at least the smaller blocks, anyways. Today, I’m all yours. We’ll do whatever you want, no questions asked. Come tomorrow, you’re all mine.
“Are you sure you’re up for that? I mean, what I want is usually a pretty big deal. Do you remember last time I had a day that was all mine? We went all over Arendelle and then ran into your troll family and almost got married for the third time. I also don’t really know what I want– I didn’t really think you would agree. We could just skip to your day and have my day tomorrow?
We’ve never had it when you were the one choosing what we did. So, today is your day, Kristoff. Whatever you want to do is what we’ll do. If you want it can be today and tomorrow because as long as I’m spending time with you I’ll be happy. First… I think a kiss is in order. To seal the deal of it being your day? Does that sound right?”
— - Anna was nothing more than a distant memory as of late. The only time her freckled face made an appearance was in his dreams and the only time her regal name was mentioned was in fleeting conversation; as though everyone in the kingdom was privy to some Anna centric secret and was determined to keep Kristoff out of the loop. Elsa was easier company to come across these days and that was certainty saying something, considering the kind sovereign’s anti-social tendencies.
It didn’t help matters that he’d been swamped with work. The position of ‘Ice Master and Deliverer’ was a joke and most hikes up into the mountainous country side were done for leisure rather than labor, but when a delegation from the kingdom of Razina had sent word of their arrival a mere two days before their flagship was to drop anchor in Arendelle’s harbor, the work order for ice was hand delivered by the queen herself. In all the haste to prepare for the company, it seemed her majesty hadn’t enough time to restock the ice cellar, even though it’d take but a flick of her dainty wrist— a fact Kristoff had grumbled about the entire journey up the mountain.
And so, with a shy goodbye kiss against the princess’s cheek, Kristoff snapped the reigns and took off on what would turn out to be a hellish trip of doom. Just barely outside the Arendelle town limits the well-worn harness that Sven had donned proudly for years had rusted to a point beyond repair and rendered his fancy new sleigh useless. With much convincing from his faithful reindeer, the blond had turned back towards the town stable to acquire new equipment only to return to an empty clearing. Turning once more back into the village, he eventually discovered the royal guard had towed the vessel back to the castle and was all but lectured by a crabby old officer for at least twenty minutes about ‘carelessness’ and ‘ungratefulness’.
Though the beginning of the trek was prolonged (and annoying), the rest of it went on without a hitch, that is, until dark clouds rolled in and let free an unrelenting rain storm. Needless to say, Kristoff returned to the castle— his current place of residence, a fact he was still getting accustomed to— he was wet, cold, and muddy, and wanted nothing more than to wash up, steal Anna away and spend the remainder of the day grumbling to her about the horrid series of events.
That’s when all the secretive nonsense began.
The palace staff always started up their Irish whispers when he walked passed them in the halls, Kai and Gerda took turns shooting him sympathetic looks, and even Elsa had taken to watching him with sad eyes. The times he did manage to bump into Anna, the ginger would barely even offer a nod of acknowledgement before turning around and fleeing as fast and far as her feet would carry. The inevitable clumsiness that ensued would’ve been endearing if not for the sharp ache in his heart that flared every time she turned her back. More than once he’d tried to give chase to the young royal, only to round a corner and find her vanished.
The moment Kristoff realized his fondness for Anna he had been convinced that things would eventually end in heartbreak. Slick his messy mop of hair back, dress him the fanciest of suits, in the end he was just a mere commoner pretending to be something more.
‘She’s settling.’
‘She deserves the very best.’
‘And the only thing I can offer is my heart.’
Plucking weakly at the strings of his lute, Kristoff almost missed the quiet knocks echoing weakly throughout his modest liar but he’d long since attuned himself with all that was his feisty flame and immediately stilled his fingers in recognition. She sought him out, for what reasons, the young Sami had no idea, but she was finally engaging him nonetheless. Despite the dread her distraught words brought forth, Kristoff couldn’t help but breathe easy, finally hearing her voice.
“I wish you nothing but the best Anna and you’re far from the worst person in the world.” The words out of any other mouth would’ve been well-intentioned, maybe even sarcastic, but from Kristoff it was blank— void of emotion all together. Opening the door ever so slightly as invitation to enter, the boy immediately headed towards his wardrobe, grabbing his travel bag free. “How could I possibly hold such selflessness against you, you were just trying to protect your sister. To protect Arendelle. Priorities and such.”
“You said so yourself, by offering yourself up like some prize or piece of property to some sketchy stranger, you’re preventing a war. There’s nothing to forgive! You’ll be hailed a hero..though I suppose that doesn’t really matter because you won’t be here to experience said honor. And hey, who knows, maybe the guy will actually turn out to be a decent human being and you two’ll fall hopelessly in love and live happily ever after, just like you’ve always wanted!” His sarcasm finally broke through. There was no need to be so petty and poke at the girl’s emotional wounds in such a tone but the pain in his own chest was enough to cloud his judgment.
“I couldn’t forget you if I tried. You, on the other hand, you seem all too ready to forget about me. You adapted quite well at ignoring my existence these past few days, surely you could last another—…oh right, the rest of your life?” He yanked open the chest at the foot of his bed and pulled free his parka, slipping it over his head. “I don’t hate you either. Which makes this all the more painful.”
The words tumbled dully past his lips and after finishing the finally lace of his boots, Kristoff turned, bowing politely before the girl.
"Your Highness.” He brushed past her, desperate to get away and channel his lurking anger into anything other than his beloved.
His words cut through her like millions of ice picks going through her all at once. When he pushed past her she instinctively thrust her hands out and grabbed a tight hold on his wrist, nearly falling face first as he walked forward. She tried to keep her grasp on him but her hands slipped and his wrist was freed. Anna stood in place, her hands outstretched in front of her where she had just been holding his wrist. She shook her head as she mumbled out the word ’n-o' under her breath over and over again as she stared after Kristoff in desperation. She wanted to run and wrap her arms around him and never let go but she knew she couldn’t. She knew that doing that would only make things worse. He needed to clear his head before they could talk– but what if he was leaving for good? What if she never saw him again?
"I-I don’t want to get married. Kristoff…“ Her voice was as weak as it had been right before she had run to save her sister from Hans. She knew he didn’t hear her or if he did he wouldn’t stop. She had ruined everything. "I did it again. I messed up again! I see… I see why people shut me out. They shut me out because I only end up messing things up. It’s all my fault… I need to try to make this right!”
Anna was speaking more to herself now but she knew that Kristoff hadn’t made it to the front door yet. She still had time to stop him before he left. She picked up the bottom of her dress and sprinted across the castle, sliding a few times to try to get there faster. She had caught up to Kristoff right as he was about to get to the door and that was when she used all her emotions into one final message. One final thing to try to stop him from leaving.
“KRISTOFF, I LO–”
She didn’t get to finish.
The slam of the front door interrupted her.
It had happened again. Her life had been a series of doors in her face. She had thought that Kristoff would be the person who never shut her out of their life but he had just made the metaphorical door a real literal door. He had left her– and he had every reason for his decision. She could feel her heart shatter in her chest as she leaned against the railings of the stairs and tried to pray to whoever was listening to bring Kristoff back and to let her go back in time and–
–and what? She wouldn’t go back in time just to make her sister be forced into the marriage. She couldn’t let Elsa marry the prince… and she wouldn’t have too. The papers that had been signed stating that Anna would marry the Prince were saying that Anna and only Anna would marry him. If she wasn’t in the castle she wouldn’t marry him and then Elsa wouldn’t have to either. Plus, with her gone Kristoff and everyone could live a better life without having to pick up after her messes. She would leave Elsa and Kristoff notes so they’ll know what she did and why. She would tell them how sorry she was for everything and that she was sorry for ever having brought them into her messes. She would apologize to Kristoff for having been so selfish as to think that letting him fall in love with her wasn’t the worst decision of his life.
She was a mistake.

She had caused everyone so much pain. She wouldn’t be missed; she was just the spare after all. Elsa could do so much more without her being there. No one would have to look out for the redhead princess in fear of her doing something that would just make their lives that much harder. Leaving would be letting Kristoff be free. She loved him with all of her heart, but she knew that if he were with someone better than herself he would be happier. She didn’t deserve to be loved. It seems that she only caused sadness and hardships wherever she went.
Anna made her way over to the library and pulled out some parchment and some ink and she began to write out two separate letters to Elsa and Kristoff. It took her a bit of time but she was lucky that both were out for a while. She sealed the letters and wrote their names on the front of each respective one. She silently left the library and placed the letters in a place that both Kristoff and Elsa would see them. Elsa’s was resting next to her place at the table while Kristoff’s was on his favorite pillow on top of their bed– well, it was his bed now. She quietly packed a few things she would need into a bag before pulling on her pink warm winter coat and headed out one of the secret passages she would frequent on a daily basis. Getting out near the stable she saw Olaf. She quickly darted to behind one of the bushes, seeing Olaf get occupied with a flower a bit away from her. She sneakily moved from the bush and made a run for it, thankful that Olaf had been to entranced by the flower to notice her.
— - “I was out camping this weekend. Cliff flung my phone into the river because I kept trying to find cell reception instead of ‘enjoying nature’s mystical beauty.’ Excuses aside…I’m sorry?”
– - "Don’t apologize. I’m just glad you’re alright; I was worried sick about you! I had imagined the worst and I had a dream that you fell into a river and I tried to pull you up but I fell under the boat and you saved me and I just– I love you. We’ll go buy you a new phone later. Right now is my welcome back celebration for you. As of right now you are going to spend the whole day with me. Your ice business can wait for a day; I’ll help you with your deliveries tomorrow so we can work twice as fast!
Can we just, for once, have a day that’s just for us? Nothing else getting in the way? I’ve been away from you for five days and I think you owe me this. I won’t take no for an answer, Kristoff. Please~?“
